March
14th in Bakersfield Ca, Broken Record Gospel played their first
gig as a band.
The venue was Riley's Tavern on 19th street, downtown. From that
day on the music hasn't
stopped.
What the hell does one want to know about a band, that they
like the Chappelle show, or that Fugazi and The Who are influences,
or should the music be compared to the sounds of
others? How about none of the above.
The music starts with a beat and a synth loop, crackling, buzzing.
And then bursts through
with high octave chording and huge bass thumbing. A driving
force, a violent groove. The explosion of
Broken Record Gospel is authentic, the music was supposed to
sound like this. The sound was
always there, it just took their performance to bring it to
life. These are epic sounds, waves of guitar with
arpeggios of water. The stage movements are aggressive, and
still they are vulnerable.
A life is taking form on the stage, the life of a song, the
lives of the players. Sex is happening in your ear, and it's
ok to get wet.
